A dedicated client advocate with a lively curiosity
Emily Anne Buttrick brings persistence and creativity to her role as an attorney and advocate. She believes the most creative solutions come from a deeper understanding of her clients and their situations, as well as a wide knowledge of the law. Her natural energy and curiosity extend to her downtime too, through travel, cooking and wine tasting.
Southern Roots. Global Curiosity.
Emily Anne is a Georgia native, and a graduate of South Carolina’s Wofford College. Driven by intellectual curiosity, she majored in government, focusing on world politics and political thought, with an economics minor. After earning her Bachelor of Arts, she moved directly to Raleigh, attending Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law.
A Passion for Litigation
While at law school, Emily Anne participated in their prestigious mock trial teams, and discovered she had both a love of, and talent for, litigation. Her prowess was recognized when she was inducted as a member of the Order of the Barristers, a national honor society recognizing graduating law students and practicing lawyers who demonstrate exceptional skill in trial advocacy, oral advocacy, and brief writing.
Points of Pride
Despite enjoying litigation, among her proudest and most satisfying moments are those when she’s able to help clients avoid the uncertainty of the courtroom through creative settlement options. And she’s had many opportunities to do so: prior to joining HSC, Emily Anne represented individuals in personal injury claims, and defended against workers’ compensation claims, bringing a unique blend of skills to bear on behalf of her clients.
Emily Anne married her longtime boyfriend Mike in September 2018. Together they enjoy spending time with their affectionate and rambunctious dog Tuskie, skiing, and traveling any chance they get. Emily Anne has visited over ten countries—six prior to Mike’s arrival. Emily Anne is also a budding culinary master and aspiring sommelier. In her spare time, Emily Anne enjoys expanding her repertoire; Mike is always an eager tester.
