Light Rail Coming to the Triangle…Or Not?
Last week, the North Carolina General Assembly passed legislation that bars the state Department of Transportation from contributing more than $500,000.00 to any light-rail project. In effect, this new legislation cancels the DOT’s prior commitment to provide nearly $138 million planned for the Durham-Orange light-rail line. It is now believed, only a week after the law was passed, that legislators from both sides of the aisle are teaming up in a bid to repeal this new legislation.
